Drug Court Organizations

International Association of Drug Treatment Courts

Since the development of the first Drug Treatment Court (DTC) outside the United States in December 1998 in Toronto, Canada, more than 27 programs have been implemented in 10 countries worldwide.

The International Association of Drug Treatment Courts (IADTC) first met in the United States following the establishment of Drug Court programs in Australia and Canada, and has since seen its membership expand to include Bermuda, Brazil, Chile, Grand Cayman Islands, England, Ireland, Jamaica, Norway, Scotland; more recently, Barbados, Israel Italy, Lithuania, and St. Lucia have explored opening Drug Treatment Courts in their respective jurisdictions.

Mission: To reduce substance abuse, crime and recidivism through the world by promoting and advocating the establishment of Drug Treatment Courts.

Who we are: An organization composed of representatives from countries where DTC's exist or are planned. The organization is also composed of international organizations that support the mission statement.

  1. Secure an international paradigm shift toward considering DTC's rather than incarceration for drug addicted offenders.
  2. Maximize IADTC's technical assistance support to those jurisdictions wishing to establish a DTC.
